Today is a special day, in that it is Thanksgiving AND Hanukkah. Trusper has all the best tips and tricks to help you enjoy this time with your friends and family. It is a rare time when two great holidays are celebrated on the same day. The next time that this will happen is about 79,000 years from today!

As we know it, Thanksgiving was proclaimed an official holiday in 1789 by George Washington. The day was different every year up until 1863, when Abraham Lincoln proclaimed it to fall on the last Thursday in November. This lasted until 1939, when Franklin Delano Roosevelt moved it up one week to allow for an extra week in the Christmas shopping season.

As a thank you to Squanto, the Native American who helped the newly arrived Pilgrims survive their first brutal winter and thrive in their new home, Governor William Bradford organized a celebratory feast as a thank you to the Native Americans. This is considered to be the first Thanksgiving.

Adventurous Weekend Trip to Monterey

As a recent "transplant" to the Bay Area, I have made a (pretty lengthy) list of the incredible things to do and see on weekends. After taking the ferry to Tiburon and going on a wine tour in Napa, I decided my next adventure should be a drive down the coast to Monterey. The 2.5 hour drive flew by and before we knew it, my sister and I arrived in the charming town of Monterey and ready to explore. First on our list of things to do was to head to the main attraction, Monterey Bay Aquarium. For $34.95 for adults and $31.95 for students, we saw an array of colorful, underwater creatures, such as seahorses, jellyfish, and fish. The best part of the experience was the Open Sea exhibit where we saw sea turtles, hammerhead sharks, and massive yellowfin tunas. After the aquarium, we took a walk along the water and did some touristy shopping. After exploring and fighting about where to eat (love her-but she's impossible!) we stumbled upon the restaurant Hula's. As soon as we walked in we knew we had made a GREAT decision. 65 degrees and sunny, we opted to sit outside on the back patio. They had two sets of couches with blankets, low tables for cocktails and appetizers, and heating lamps. It was perfect for a romantic dinner or casual drinks with friends! There was a $5 pupus and drink special so we ordered coconut shrimp spring rolls, chicken wings, and beef skewers with pineapple. We also ordered fruity drinks, the tropical itch and the double painkiller. Everything was delicious and the setting was PERFECT after a long day of adventures. Check out Hula's! undefined by Sarah Avallone on Trusper.
